As the owner of a carpet cleaning company in Cyril, Oklahoma, Dublin graduate Scotty Moncrief often spends long hours on the job. “I enjoy the work I do,” he said. “That’s the number one thing for me — that I do a really good job and take pride in what I do.”

Moncrief graduated from Paradigm Accelerated School in Dublin in 1998. After he graduated, his son Dominick was born, and Moncrief found a job driving a garbage truck in town. “An older guy I knew worked there and he’s the one that got me on,” Moncrief said. “I started as a helper and did that for about a year and a half before I got my CDL and started driving.”

Moncrief drove the truck for four years, until in 2004 his mother and step-father moved to Oklahoma. “I had just gotten custody of my son, and they were helping me out a little bit with taking care of him,” Moncrief said.

So Moncrief moved to Cyril, Oklahoma, to be closer to his family. His mother and step-father owned a carpet cleaning business, and he worked for them for a while. The work required a lot of travel, though, so while his son was young Moncrief went back to driving a garbage truck.

He’d still help out with the carpet cleaning business when they had jobs close to home, and when the business eventually went up for sale, Moncrief decided to buy it. After Moncrief took over the business, called C&S Carpet Cleaning, he set about buying all new equipment, and building a client base.

“When I first started doing it, we had a contract with Motel Six, but then Motel Six went to laminate floors,” Moncries said. “So I had to pick up my own clientele. I basically found them by word of mouth among hotels in the area.”

He also invested in advertising, and worked on his website until it began showing up on the top page of Google. This helped him attract clients like Hilton Garden Inns and some other hotels from Oklahoma to Tennessee.

Moncrief specializes in hotels — he has about 80 regulars — but also cleans houses when he has the time. “I stay really, really busy,” he said. “I’m usually about 8 or 10 days booked ahead of time.”

Over the next few years, he’s planning on expanding his business and buying new equipment so he can increase the number of clients he works with. “I hope pretty soon to have to get another truck going, and I’ve looked at some new machines,” he said.

Moncrief’s favorite part o the job is the freedom that comes with owning your own business. “I’m my own boss, and can pretty much make my own hours,” he said.

When he’s not working, Moncrief enjoys spending time with his girlfriend, Kirah Wilson, and his children. Moncrief and Wilson have been together for three years and are buying a house in Cyril.

Wilson has three children from a previous marriage: Kyanna, 15, Katlynn, 13 and Kyler, 9. Moncrief has two grown children of his own. His son Dominick is 22 and lives in Baird, Texas, and his daughter, Niycole is 19 and lives inTexas.

“One of my favorite pastimes is going to kids’ sports and stuff like that,” Moncrief said. “Just spending time with family as much as I can.”

He also attends church (usually remotely) in Cyril. “My greatest source of inspiration has to be God, my mom and step-dad and my kids,” he said. “I’ve always just wanted to be a good father to my kids. I’ve made lots of mistakes in my life and I think I’ve learned a lot from my mistakes that I’ve made. If you can learn from your mistakes, it makes you a better man.”
