Editor’s note: The Dublin Citizen offices will be closed Friday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day along with many banks, city and county offices and other businesses.

A variety of Veterans Day events will be hosted in the area geared to show those who sacrificed so much with military service how much they mean to us all.

There will be a ceremony Friday, Nov. 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erath County Courthouse in Stephenville hosted by the Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240.

Tarleton State University Texan Corps of Cadets and ROTC Color Guard will present colors and provide rifle salute. The guest speaker will be Colonel Doug Simon, Commandant of Tarleton State University’s Corps of Cadets and Dean of its Leadership and Military College.

Refreshments are being provided by Erath County United Way and Interbank.

A free lunch is being provided by White Horse Christian Academy at the paradigm building at First Baptist Church for veterans and first responders following the event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Dublin High School will be hosting a Veterans Day ceremony open to the public at 1 p.m. at the secondary school.

The second annual Veterans Dinner Fundraiser will be hosted from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the City Park large pavilion in Stephenville. Hamburger plates are $10 and Veterans eat free.

In Weatherford, the National Vietnam War Museum will have free admission on Friday, Nov. 11 in honor of those who have served. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and located at 12685 Mineral Wells Highway in Weatherford.

For those unable to make it to the museum, the museum asks everyone to join them virtually for a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m.

In Hamilton, there will be an anvil shoot and breakfast at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at American Legion Cunningham Post No. 222. The event is free, organizers said.

On Sunday, Nov. 13 the Comanche County Historical Society and Museum Inc. will host a Veterans Day Lunch.

Serving begins at 11 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m. The luncheon will feature a Festival Fiesta Tacolicious Taco Salad with all the toppings and beans.

They will have a variety of desserts including Sopapilla Cheesecake, Texas Chocolate Cake and Banana Pudding for Dessert.

The event is by donation only.

The museum is located at 402 Moorman Road, West of Bayer GMC in Comanche.
