It has been a very rough 2 years for all agriculture producers and for sure it has been hard on livestock producers; it looks like things may finally be headed in the right direction. The recent rains may be proof that EL Nino is finally taking over the weather pattern, which should provide us with much better growing conditions and better frames of mind. To help support everyone that will be attempting to recover from the drought, we have assembled some great speakers to present at our Tri-County Cattle Gathering.

This year we have Dr. Jason Johnson, Texas AgriLife Extension Ag Economist discussing “Ag and Drought Recovery Economics,” James Jackson, Weed Specialist with Alligare will be talking about “Brush and Weed Control in Drought Stressed Pastures and Rangeland,” and Dr. Reagan Noland, Texas A& M AgriLife Extension Agronomist will cover “Small Grains for Forage in Central Texas and Drought Recovery Tools for Summer Perennials”.

These are topics that will be of interest and concern to all producers following the 2 years of drought.

The program will be held on Friday, October 13th at MP Brangus Ranch (1101 FM 2823, Dublin, TX) near Carlton. Registration for the program will begin at 11:30 am and the program will run from 12:00 pm until approximately 4:00 PM.

We will be offering 1 IPM CEU. There is no charge for the program and lunch will be provided by our great local sponsors. These are some good speakers and I encourage everyone to try and make the program if possible. Please call the office at 325-356-2539 to pre-register.

Peanut Field Day will be held on Friday, October 6th, beginning at 10:00 AM and running to approximately 1:00 PM. This year’s trials are located at Todd Deman’s Farm. To get to the trials go to Lamkin, TX and take CR 382 to the left coming from Gustine off HWY 36. Take a left at the Leon River Bridge, go 2 more miles until 382 turns into 390, and you will be therewatch for a sign at entrance. There will be 2 CEU’s, 1 IPM and 1 general offered at the field day and lunch will be sponsored by our great local sponsors.
