This Saturday, 80 years of National Cutting Horse Association history will be celebrated with a stallion showcase in Dublin.
The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 24 at Dublin City Park Arena.
Gates open at 11 a.m. and the showcase begins at 2 p.m. General admission is $5 for 8 and up, or bring a new unwrapped toy donation for Toys for Tots.
This is being held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the National Cutting Horse Association. The very first NCHA sanctioned competition was held on Sept. 10, 1946. Twentyone contestants each paid a $10 entry fee while NCHA offered $200 in added money. Riding his American Quarter Horse Snooks, Jimmy Maddox took first place. The first NCHA sanctioned cutting paved the way for the discipline. The success of the fledgling NCHA would not only succeeded but flourished. There are more than 15,000 members and an annual payout averaging around $ 40,000,000.
“Dublin not only has a rich rodeo history but other western lifestyles as well,” organizer Rick Taylor said.
The anniversary will consist of a stallion showcase and exhibit beginning at 2 p.m. with opening ceremonies by the West Texas Cowgirls riding team, appearances by Miss Lilly G Rodeo Texas, along with up-and-coming Cowboy Entrepreneur and Texas Rancher Kingston Gunter.
There will also be western art, vendors, food and more.
