The 17th annual Ben Hogan Legacy Golf Series tournament is set for June 12, with golfers from all around coming to compete at PAR and honor Dublin’s hometown golf legend.
Event organizer Charlie Finegan said the annual event is important as fundraising for the Ben Hogan Museum, particularly as they examine how to grow.
Finegan is appreciative of the support the museum has found already in this cause as the tournament had a record number of corporate sponsors this year.
The growth will further enhance the museum, already named on The Travel Channel’s ‘Bucket List of 10 Destinations for Golf fans.’
“My personal vision is to get the younger people to know who Hogan was, not only as a golfer but as a person—give a side that maybe not all golfers know about,” added Finegan. “I’d like more people to learn about the values he had and values in the game.”
The tournament, hosted by the Ben Hogan Museum of Dublin is a 4-person scramble with tee off at 10 a.m., followed by lunch. Cost is $135 per golfer or $540 per team. Fees include greens fees, cart rentals, two mulligans, a nice gift and lunch.
Those registered also get entry into a special dinner set Thursday, June 11 at the Majestic on Grafton (112 S. Grafton, by Shenanigans). Guests will be treated to a Chick-Fil-A meal and get to hear special speakers including actor and retired firefighter Burton Gilliam, best known for his appearances in “Blazing Saddles,” “Paper Moon,” “Back to the Future Part III” and “Honeymoon in Vegas.”
The Dallas native and character actor is no stranger to the fairway and plans to play in the tournament himself on June 12.
Finegan called Gilliam a very entertaining speaker with insight on the game.
