Moving through a brief agenda Monday, Sept. 25, the Dublin ISD School Board received its tax collection report, which was full of good news.

Robert Meyers with the district’s tax lawyer firm of McCreary, Veselka, Bragg and Allen, P.C. and Erath County Tax Assessor- Collector Jennifer Carey were on hand for the presentation.

According to Meyers, the district’s total annual tax collections (current and delinquent taxes, penalties and interest) actually exceed the amount of taxes that have been levied.

The district has collected 98.07% to 99.53% of the taxes that were levied for each of the last four years, he said.

They have collected 77.67% of the delinquent taxes referred to them in July 2022, 88.87% of the taxes referred in July 2021 and 93.08% of the taxes referred in July 2020.

In order to collect the district’s delinquent taxes during the report period they have sent over 534 delinquent tax notices, filed 27 delinquent tax suits, recovered nine judgments and posted 10 properties for sale.

“It is a historical reality that a small percentage of each year’s tax levy will be uncollectable due to a number of reasons such as insolvent business personal property accounts, bankruptcies, tax deferrals, medical hardships, and the fact that some property owners are judgment proof. Therefore, the cumulative percent collected, while extremely high, will never be one hundred percent,” the report said.

The board also unanimously approved a new school activity bus at a cost of $140,944. Since there is an 8-month waiting time, they are hopefully to have it by the start of the next school year in August.

Board members were also informed of numerous upcoming training opportunities including the annual Texas Association of School Board Convention.

A slew of student and teacher awards were also presented at the meeting. For photos of these awards, see page A10.
