Roof collapse prompts quick response

The city of Dublin has received a demolition permit from Crazy Ace LLC to remove a collapsed roof on the building next to the Corner Lot on North Patrick.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, a collapse caused the break of windows and sent debris onto main street. Neighboring business owners reported the building owners were quick to respond and started cleaning dirt and debris on the street while equipment was working inside the building the next day.

The collapse also resulted in the separation of the south wall next to the Corner Lot. City Manager Bobby Mendez reported the owner intends to reconstruct a roof on the building and the city has been in contact with the owner’s contractor to ensure the wall does not fall. Mendez also reported the city is working with Bureau Veritas about measures to ensure that the structural integrity of downtown’s historic buildings are maintained.

The area was roped off with caution tape and barricades to keep the public safe while repairs take place.
