Lilly G Arena Productions is returning to the Dublin City Park Arena Saturday, May 6 for the Monta de Toros rodeo, which will feature a special tribute to a cherished rodeo clown from the headliner who revered him.

Jeff “Jackrabbit” Harris, a rodeo clown who has entertained thousands through many venues is using his halftime show during the event to honor Lecile Harris, known to many as the “Dean of Rodeo Clowns/ Bullfighters.”

Harris was a mainstay on the television series, “Hee Haw” and the PRCA Clown of the Year in 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1996. At his peak, Harris performed at more than 100 rodeos each year.

Harris plans to honor the legend who passed in 2000 during a halftime show which promises quality entertainment from a seasoned showman.

Monta de Toros is an open bull riding event at Dublin City Park Arena. The event is being sponsored by Waste Connections with bulls provided by Rockin 7 Productions.

Gates will open at noon with riding starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 each with kids 8 and under entering free.

That $12 offers access to a great show with Comanche’s Glenn Murray providing lively commentary. Fredricksburg bullfighter Alfredo Dugue is also joining Philip Pierce and Colton Gray in the ring for some bull fight action.

Vendors and concessions will also be on hand offering all sorts of treats.

A chili cookoff will be held in conjunction with the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with $250 added in for prizes.

Those attending can know they’re supporting a great cause, as a portion of proceeds will benefit the Transformation Pathway Dublin Christian Women’s Job Corps Ministry.

“We are not a nonprofit, but everything we do, we do for charity,” said organizer Rick Taylor.

Taylor is hoping for a fun, family friendly event to bring some life to the Dublin Arena.

“We’d like to do other things out here,” said Taylor. “I’d like to do [a rodeo] at St. Patrick’s Day in conjunction with the festival.”
