Parade kicks off Christmas season

Christmas officially returns to Dublin with the hometown lighted Christmas parade and other special events in “Christmas Under the Stars” tonight.

Santa Claus will usher in the lighted Christmas parade at 6 p.m., riding in his traditional perch on a Dublin Volunteer Fire Department truck.

Parade entries should report to the Dublin Memorial Stadium by 5:30 p.m. The entries will travel up Travis St., traveling south on Patrick Street all the way to Elm. The cost to enter the parade is a donation to Dublin Goodfellows, who has provided a wide variety of assistance to Dubliners in need for decades.

Following the parade, Santa will meet with community kids 12 and under at the Corner Lot gazebo.

Live entertainment will also follow in the Dublin Rotary Building at 7 p.m. with restrooms available to the public.

Downtown Dublin will be lit up with other activities until 8 p.m. including a hot chocolate bar and a special mailbox at the Corner Lot that will take children’s Santa letters straight to the North Pole.

Dublin merchants will also be open late for some convenient Christmas shopping. Every $20 spent at participating retailers yields an entry into a raffle for gift cards as well as a unique table crafted by the concrete masters at Faux Bois. The giveaway drawings will be held during a special Christmas sip and shop event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 21 that will see Santa’s return. Shoppers must be present at the drawings to win. (Giftcard drawing will be at noon while the table drawing will be at 4 p.m.)

Santa will be busy that Saturday as kids can have sodas with him at Dublin Bottling Works or take a wagon ride or photos with him by the Corner Lot.

There will also be a special ‘Gingerbread Kid Corral’ at the Dublin Rotary Building.
