Hico News Review

The Hico School Board election will take place on Nov. 3 in line with the Presidential, National and State elections. The original date of the School Board election was May 2, but was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Two seats are available and three School Board candidates are looking to fill those seats. Candidates include incumbents Keith Broumley and Britt Holt and challenger Trenton Hunt. School Board candidates will be on the same ballot sheet as Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden and other national and state candidates. “Early voting for the School Board race will not be conducted at the school this year. It will instead be held Oct. 13-Oct. 30 at the Hamilton County Court House in Hamilton from 8 am to 4:30 pm Monday-Friday, with extended hours on Oct. 22 and Oct. 27 from 7 am to 7 pm.”

The Hamilton Police Department was notified of someone who had turned in a suspicious prescription at a local pharmacy on Sept. 23. HPD investigated and determined the prescription was fake and arrived as the prescription was being picked up. The individual tried to elude police after being confronted by an officer and ran away, slipping out of his shoes in the process. was quickly apprehended and arrested. The suspect had an active warrant from Bexar County and “face multiple misdemeanors and felony charges in Hamilton.” The suspect and two others are also persons of interest in convenience store robberies in the nearby towns.

Hamilton PD recently recognized the retirement of its K-9 officer, Brenda, who has been with the department almost since the department’s creation. The Belgian Malinois which was recently partnered with David Rosenthal will go to hive with her former partner, Dustin Smallridge.

The 59th Annual Dudley Bros. Bull sale is set for Oct. 8 at the Dudley Bros. Ranch on Hwy 67/377. 125 registered Hereford bulls will be up for sale beginning at noon. DeLeon Free-Press

The Blue Goose Bar and Grill is set to open Oct. 15 in DeLeon. The restaurant features a bar and a dance floor and will be open regularly on Friday’s, Saturday’s and Sundays. Owner George Vera stated that the restaurant menu will be mostly steak and seafood dishes. Vera said “We want to give people something to do, some place to go, and keep that money here in DeLeon.”
