July 4, firework sales approaching

Body

As July 4 approaches, several area events are on tap for Erath County citizens to enjoy Independence Day this year.

In Stephenville, there will be the annual Fourth of July Celebration with a parade, concert and fireworks set for Tuesday, July 4.

For those interested in the parade, the deadline is Friday, June 30 and there is no fee to enter.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and begin at the South entrance of the park, turn North on Graham, then turn West on Washington. The parade will end at Harbin and Washington.

A wide variety of entries are typically seen at the parade and the event lasts quite a while in patriotic splendor as numerous entries participate.

There will be events throughout the day at the Stephenville city park and a concert with Max and Heather Stalling, Lee Roy Parnell and Larry Joe Taylor.

Fireworks will begin at dark.

Good news is on the horizon for firework sellers and those wishing to purchase their own fireworks for July 4.

Due to a low drought index, fireworks will be sold this year in Erath County from June 24 through midnight on July 4.

Currently, Erath County is also not under a burn ban due to the amount of rain the county has seen.

Fire Marshal Tommy Shelton encourages everyone to be safe while utilizing fireworks and still have water handy to extinguish fireworks in case of a fire.
