Daniel Jones may be one of the newest officers on the Dublin PD, but he is no stranger to the department.

The 23-year-old Abilene native was an intern for Dublin PD and served as a night-time dispatcher while he was attending Tarleton.

After attending Tarleton, he went to the Weatherford College Law Enforcement Academy, where he just graduated as valedictorian of his class.

“I was actually going to be an officer in the Air Force,” Jones said of his original career path.

Following his first year at A&M, Jones saw the reports of the night-club shooting in Orlando and the five officers killed in a Dallas shooting in 2016.

“I figured I could help more at home than being in the Air Force and helping somewhere halfway across the world,” Jones said.

Jones started service on Sept. 1, and although he’s new to the post, he’s already enjoying it.

“It’s definitely a smaller town,” Jones said of Dublin in comparison to Abilene. “I’d rather be here than in Dallas.”

Jones reported that he would possibly like to serve on a special position like SWAT one day, but for right now, he’s just easing into his new position with his fellow officers and getting to know Dublin from behind the shield.
