The Dublin Jr. High teams scored more triumphs last week as the 7th and 8th grade football teams faced the Florence Buffaloes.
7th grade The Dublin 7th Grade Lions had another great win on Thursday! The Buffaloes came out and held the ball for the entire first quarter and the first minute of the 2nd quarter. The Lions finally bowed their necks and had a big defensive stop on 4th down to stop the drive on the 10.
Kyler Gaitan would score the lone score of the half on a 3 yard scamper. Joe Salinas would run in the 2-point conversion to make the score 8-0 at halftime.
Beginning of the 2nd half Joe Salinas would hit Jacob Marrett on a 57 yard touchdown throw and run. Salinas would run in the 2 point conversion. The Lions would lead 16-0 in the 3rd. Gaitan would score again on a 70 yard scamper and the 2 point conversion was no good. Dublin led 22-0. Florence would score late in the 3rd to make the game 22-6.
Gaitan would get his final score of the night on a 25 yard run and the 2 point attempt was no good. The final score was Dublin 28Florence 6. Offensive standouts include Jacob Marrett, Jitse DeBoer, Westin Rollins, and Bryan Ortiz. Defensive Standouts include Victor Vasquez, Jayden Balvantin, Jory McKeitten, and Joe Salinas. “This was a great effort for our offensive,” said coach Tyler Sattler. “We were clicking on running and connected on some long passes.” Coach Bradford said “defensively the kids have come a long way from the beginning of the year. We are starting to put everything together and our kids are playing great.” The Lions season record is 3-1.
8th Grade The 8th grade lions battled a strong Florence team to a 28-28 tie. The lions received the ball on the opening kickoff. They took only 3 plays for Ruben Bustillos to score on a 64 yard run.
The 2 point conversion was good and the score was Dublin 8- Florence 0. Later in the quarter Ruben would hit Jayden Deleon for a long 30 yard pass completion. Ruben Bustillos would then score again from 3 yards out. He also had a 2 point conversion. At half, Dublin led the game 16-6. At half Florence would take a handoff up the middle for a 45 yard score.
Florence would score again on a 10 yard run and lead the end of the 3rd by a score of 20-14.
After a long drive by the Lions, Nick Gonzalez will score on a 10 yard run. Ruben will put it in for two. the score is now tied in the fourth 2020.
Florence scores in the 4th and converts the 2point conversion bringing the score to 28-20 in favor of Florence. Dublin will score the final points of the game on a 12 yard pass from Ruben to Jayden Deleon. The 8th grade record is 1-2-1 Offensive standouts were Nick Gonzalez, Juan Elicerio, Jayden Deleon and Javier Padron. Defensive standouts include Riley Kemp, Cayson Loving, Xavier Lopez, and Eli Delacerda. “We pulled out all the stops tonight by running several reverses and just tried to change it up some,” said Coach Sattler. “The offense played outstanding!” “The Lions played a good team and never backed down,” said Coach Shawn Bradford. “We gave up a few points but made stops when we needed to.”
