An abundance of red, white and blue will be on display this weekend with Dublin’s Freedom Fest, organized by the nonprofit Revitalize Dublin.
The event will serve as a lead-up event to July’s America 250 Celebration.
Freedom Fest, which is free to everyone, will kick off at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27 at the Dublin City Park located on Highland Avenue.
“After attending one of America’s 250th birthday committee meetings we knew Revitalize Dublin should be a part of the celebration! Freedom Fest was created as a lead-up event to America’s 250th birthday celebration on July 3rd at the Dublin Public Library. Aligning with our mission statement to bring beautification to Dublin, we settled on a porch decorating contest. But our mission statement goes beyond beautification of the community. We will continue to support and promote small businesses and encourage community involvement. Bringing Freedom Fest to Dublin does both of those things but also adds fun to Dublin! Who doesn’t love a parade, food trucks, swimming, and bouncy houses?” Revitalize Dublin Vice President Lori Beggs said.
At 11 a.m., a patriotic pet and decorated bike and scooter parade will take place allowing kids and adults alike to show off their patriotic spirit.
Anyone interested in registering for the parades, needs to go to the City Park at 10:30 a.m.
A chalk art contest will occur from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Following the parade, a free swim day will take place at the City Pool from noon to 5 p.m. including free bouncy waterslides sponsored by Bradberry’s Best and Croell Concrete, along with sponsor Texas Bank. Parents are encouraged to spend the day with the community at a ‘Parents Patio Party’ in the pavilion. Bring a chair, some games, or a blanket but mainly yourself!
There will also be a variety of food trucks on site including Feed My Sheep, Bar Lee Barbecue, Seasoned and Blessed, Southern Swigs, Kona Ice and La Jalisicense.
As part of the Dublin Celebrates America250, Revitalize Dublin is also hosting a Patriotic Porch Decorating event with a $100 gift card. Judging will take place on July 3, and participants must submit their address to RD through the Google form online.
The judges will submit the top two, and the public will vote on the winner!
“It’s hard to say exactly what we are most excited about. With the combination of the pet parade, bike and scooter parade, chalk art contest, free swimming, waterslides, and food trucks all in the park on June 27 is all exciting! But seeing the community get excited that we are doing good works in Dublin is probably the best. When people are sending me photos of decorations that they have purchased for their bike parade over a week in advance — this makes me excited!” Beggs said.
