Former priest in abuse list
A local priest from the 1980s is listed among clergy with “credible accusations” of sexual abuse.
The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth announced its “ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of our children and its commitment to transparency” with the release of a list of clergy with credible accusations of sexual abuse, dating back to the 1960s.
The list includes 17 men who have served the local diocese, one of which served in Erath County in 1984-85: James Howlett.
According to the Catholic Diocese’s website, Howlett was ordained in Ireland for the Pallotine Fathers and was assigned to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Graham and St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Olney from 1977 to 1984.
From 1984 to 1985, Howlett served St. Brendan’s Catholic Church in Stephenville, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dublin, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comanche and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in DeLeon.
The Diocese reports that Howlett was removed from ministry by the Pallotine Fathers and lives with the Pallotine Community in Dublin, Ireland, where his contact with individuals outside of the Pallotine Community is restricted.
