Filing open for city elections
Filing is officially open for the first City Council election since the council switched from the ward system to at-large.
Dublin City Secretary Rhonda Williams announced the switch has resulted in a few changes to the way that candidates file for the May 4 election.
One unusual result of the switch is that candidates filing for mayor or Place 4 will be filing for one-year terms this year since the City is working to get Place 2 and 4 and the mayoral elections on even years and elections for places 1, 3 and 5 on odd years.
As a result of this new schedule, only Cliff Jackson in Place 2 is not facing an election on May 4.
Up for decision are Place 1 — currently filled by John Johnson —, Place 3 — Lee Jones —, Place 4 — Tommy Sperry —, Place 5 — Joey Munoz — and the office of the mayor — David Leatherwood.
Candidates filing for the City Council will have to choose which place they want to file.
