Elks Lodge celebrates success with BBQ contest, cars, bikes

Stephenville Area Elks Lodge in conjunction with their Drug Awareness Program hosted its annual Car and Bike Show Saturday, July 29 at the City Park as part of Summer Showdown.

The following awards were given out: Best Car - Don Tullos for his 1929 Ford Model A.

Best Truck- Cass Griffin for his 1951 310 Chevy.

Best Custom- Johnny Ansley with his 1930 Ford Model A sedan.

Shrek Choice for car or truck- AR Carwell for a 1967 Pontiac GTO.

Best Bike and Best Paint - George Barbary with his 2006 Harley Davidson Soft Tail.

Shrek choice for Best Bike - Jerromy Ansley with his Harley.

Despite the hot weather, car and bike enthusiasts came by the park in the morning to enjoy visiting with car and bike owners.

The Stephenville Area Elks Lodge also hosted its 3rd annual BBQ cookoff which was an official state championship cookoff.

Judges were asked to cast opinions on 17 brisket, chicken, pork and rib teams along with six participants for beans and ‘kids’que entries.

‘Kids’que participants cooked pork chops donated by Thompson’s Custom Meats and Processing.

The overall top three teams were: LC BBQ (first place), Bigg E BBQ (second place) and Sure Shot BBQ (third place).

The following are the top three winners in each category.

Ribs: First place Limpbrizkit, Second place - Sure Shot BBQ and Third place - LC BBQ.

Pork: First place - Bigg E BBQ, Second place La Pasadita; Third place Twisted Flames.

Brisket: First place Limpbrizkit, Second place - LC BBQ and Third place - South Side Smokers.

Chicken: First place Bigg E BBQ, Second place - OAKalla Que and third place- Sure Shot BBQ.

Beans: First place Rafter C BBQ, Second place - BMF Cookers and third place - Smoke Show BBQ.

Kids ‘Que’ - First place - Running Boar BBQ junior; second place - Sure Shot BBQ - junior; third place - Ms Sure Shot junior.
