DISD Cheer hosting online fundraiser
Dublin cheer fans have until July 27 to help the program while getting something cool to show off their Lion and Lady Lion support.
Dublin Cheer Sponsor Maegan Ralston announced that the 2020-2021 Dublin Cheerleaders are hosting an online fundraiser to help the team members with costs.
“We wanted something we could still do while observing social distancing and help the girls pay off bills,” Ralston said.
She was directed to Fan Cloth, an online company that offers custom gear shipped directly to the buyer’s house, meaning cheerleaders only have to be available for questions on those wanting to buy merchandise.
Ralston did a lot of research before deciding that this was the perfect fit for their fundraiser.
“I read reviews from cheer coaches and [the company] always had really good results,” Ralston said.
Ralston estimated that cheerleader costs are typically $900 to $1,000, although costs are slightly lower after the camp they were set to attend this week was shifted to a virtual camp with cheerleaders getting pointers through video conferencing.
“Costs are probably about $700 to $900 this year,” she said.
Ralston admitted the pandemic has cut into the team’s practice time, but the squad has a lot of experience on their side with eight returners (and five seniors) on varsity and a junior high squad with four returners and four new members.
Ralston also has the team using a social media app to post conversations and routines to help build camaraderie while they’re not meeting in-person.
Ralston said the fundraiser has already garnered some support with people purchasing everything from mesh jerseys to tumblers featuring the Lion logo.
“It’s awesome to see the community rally behind the girls and give them support,” she said.
