The Bosque River Chapter of Daughters of the Republic of Texas will meet at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at the First Presbyterian Church of Stephenville.
The program will be presented by chapter member, Sheran Weible.
Weible carefully researches and sews clothes from various periods of history and presents fashion shows for schools and other organizations. She will be presenting fashions from the 1840’s on the Texas frontier.
The chapter will also be celebrating the birthday of Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 3. He is considered the Father of Texas as he brought the first organized groups of United States settlers to what was then Mexico in 1825.
DRT Founders’ Day, Nov. 6 will also be recognized. On that date in 1891 a group of 17 ladies met to organize a Republic of Texas daughters organization to meet with Texas Veterans of the Republic. Membership has now reached about 7,000 women who are direct descendants of a man or woman who served the Republic of Texas honorably.
