Due to current dry conditions and following several fires in recent weeks, the Erath County Commissioners’ Court voted to extend the burn ban on Monday until conditions get better and and order is approved lifting it.

The resolution restricting outdoor burning was passed because it was “determined that circumstances present in the unincorporated area of the county create a public safety hazard that would be exacerbated by outdoor burning.”

The exception to this rule will be any outdoor cooking appliances designed for preparing food with a containment lid and welding is allowed where needed with several mitigating efforts to ensure safety.

Violation of the ordinance is a Class C Misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.
