Cookoff now state event

The Stephenville Area Elks Lodge keeps making the annual BBQ CookOff even bigger and the organization announced last week the event will be an official state championship cook-off.

The sanctioned barbecue cook-off will be this Saturday, July 29 at Dublin City Park.

Along with the sweet smells of quality ‘que, guests can check out the accompanying car show during the day and live music from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. featuring Haynes and Terry Barrington.

Entry for the cooking competition is $200 with an 80/20 split. The entry fee includes all four meats: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.

Beans are $30 with a jackpot win.

The cooks meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 28 and teams can start moving in at noon on Friday.

The event will also include a ‘kids’-que, where kids can compete in their own division. The kids meeting for those who are competing will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and kids pork chop turn-in will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. The ‘kids’que is $25 and pork chops will be provided for cooking by Thompson’s Custom Meats and Processing.

For those entering the bean division, entries are due at 11 a.m. Saturday, chicken is due at noon, ribs at 1 p.m., pork at 2 p.m. and brisket at 3 p.m.

Awards will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Saturday (or sooner if possible).
