Cinco de Mayo set for park

The first “Cinco De Mayo Party in the Park” is set this Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m., offering an afternoon of fun celebrating Hispanic heritage.

The Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring the featured guest, Marion Surles, a Dublin author who just released the novel, “Grit in Juarez, Beyond the Wall,” which tells the story of children growing up in poverty in Mexico.

Surles will be a guest speaker during the festivities and offer a Q&A segment and a book signing for attendees.

Melinda Cohen will also be on-site for face and body art.

Fans of low riders can also come and check out some classic cars on display and any low rider owners are invited to join the group.

Other points of interest during the entire event include food and craft vendors, music, contests, prizes pinata and hosting by DJ Javi and DJ Loco.

Opening ceremonies will kick-off at Dublin City Park at 1 p.m., followed by a performance of the Dublin Dance Line at 2 p.m.

The Folkloric Ballet Azteca of Fort Worth will also show off their footwork at 3 p.m.

The live entertainment continues at 4 p.m. with a performance by Enok Band and Cumbias Music from First Baptist, featuring Fiesta Queen Maritza Mendoza.

Dublin Chamber Executive Director Luanne Schexnider said the Sunday event will be a fun preview of the Fall Fiesta to come this autumn.

“It’s such a pleasure to work with the Hispanic business owners and help them learn more about becoming Chamber of Commerce members and sharing their ideas in a collaborative effort to make Dublin the Best it can be,” Schexnider said.
