Comanche County Healthcare Foundation, voted in October to present $100,000 to the Comanche County Medical Center (CCMC) and Hospital District (CCCHD) to go towards work on the new longterm care facility.

The not-for-profit, 76-unit center is now under construction adjacent to the hospital at 10201 TX-16, midway between Comanche and De Leon. Construction began in early September. Primary funding for the project has been made possible with a USDAbacked construction loan. Additional funding is being provided by the health system and charitable donors.

Foundation President, Mark Beaty noted the Foundation had earlier anticipated awarding $75,000, based on last year’s fundraising results and the anticipated funds from the annual dinner and auction held in September. However, with increased gifts and pledges from annual and new donors, $25,000 was added to the total gift to the health system. Community support through the Foundation’s fall fundraiser helped make it the most successful in its 20-year history.

The 15- member volunteer board is collaborating with the CCMC and CCCHD boards, staff and the Legacy Campaign committee to grow philanthropic support for construction funding of the new nursing home. To date, charitable gifts and pledges for the initiative total nearly $800,000. As the project is a big one, everyone involved is appealing to donors and foundations to support the remaining $400,000 in funding needed to complete construction.
