Board thanks special team for life skills meet

DISD School Board

The Special Education Department was recognized for its work on the Life Skills Track Meet. They are Kalley Mitchell, Samantha Abila, Sara Button, Sabrina Carter, Jessica Grisham, Christy Kitchens and Selena Sparkman.

Mitchell said 118 athletes participated, and the Lion’s Club and Rotary Club grilled 400 hamburgers. She said the weather caused them to move the event to the high school gyms, and Mitchell said she thought it was actually better inside.

Mac McKinnon was voted (minus absent member Jimmy Holleman) to a new term on the Board of Directors of the Erath County Appraisal District for 2019-20. If approved by the other taxing entities in the county, he will serve the term.

The board recognized the Little Lion Leaders. From Pre-K, Emma Gilbert and Nolan Gilman; from Kindergarten Juan Castillo and Ellie Ray; from first grade, Selene Moreno and Ivan Vasquez, from second grade, Jose Delgado and Mya Parks; and from third grade, Jocelyn Perez and Jeremy Vazquez.

Academic scholars are Andrea Medina and Tayleigh Pendleton; extracurricular scholars are Maria Bahena and Lorenzo Ortega; and athletic scholars for high school are Brooklynn Johnson and Jakob Seals and for junior high are Miranda Calderon and Cesar Caldera.

The board moved its November and December meetings to one combined meeting on Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. because of holiday schedules.
