Board talks upcoming events

Dublin Chamber of Commerce

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce examined the schedule of upcoming events during the directors’ meeting last week.

The next scheduled event will be the city’s Halloween festivities with kids invited for a safe trick or treat downtown from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dublin Lions Club members will be assisting with cross traffic and a photo booth will be set up at the Corner Lot by the Dublin Citizen. The Citizen is also hosting a costume contest with winners eligible for Dublin Dollars provided by the Chamber. (Submission must be submitted to the Citizen via facebook or by midnight on Oct. 31.)

There are also plans for face painting for visitors to the corner lot.

Golden Age Healthcare Residence will also be offering candy and activities from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Three Oaks Assisted Living will be hosting a large group gathering and spook parade weather permitting. Free hot dogs and chips will also be served at Three Oaks until 6 p.m. or when supplies run out.

Chamber executive directorLuanneSchexnider remarked on several changes to longstanding events with the Fall Fiesta postponed from this month to May so it can be tied to Cinco de Mayo. Schexnider said she is even considering about scheduling the event on Sunday afternoon so it won’t interfere with any other events or busy schedules at the end of the school year.

The Shamrock Christmas events are also moved from the first Thursday to Dec. 8 with the parade move from nighttime to 10 a.m. The entry fee this year will be through donations made to the Dublin Senior Citizens Center. This will be followed by several activities throughout the day to attract tourism into the city and attract people to do some Christmas shopping at Dublin’s unique businesses.

The Chamber awards has also been moved to Saturday with directors suggesting 6 p.m. on Feb.

2. The banquet is tentatively being set for Dublin Secondary school in a more relaxed atmosphere, focusing on the award winners and removing other aspects like the table decoration contest.
