District 8 Farm & Ranch Seminar and Irrigation Summit
After two-years of drought, many folks may have become discouraged and not kept up their CEU credits for their applicator license. The weather outlook is much more positive for the coming year than it has been in a couple of years. With many fields having thin stands of grass, the weeds will be ready to fill those voids. Having the ability to spray those fields will be a top priority. If you need to catch up on your hours, here is your opportunity. The Farm and Ranch CEU program gives you an opportunity to get lots of CEU’s in one day. The program will be held on Thursday, December 14th, 2023, at the DeLeon City Auditorium. This seminar will offer eight (8) CEU’s for the private applicator license and certificate holders. The approved credit hours are: four (4) General, two (2) Laws and Regulation, one (2) IPM. Commercial and non-commercial license holders will be able to obtain all their needed hours for license renewal within the first 5 hours of the program.
The morning session will meet commercial applicators’ requirements for the year and offer one (1) general, two (2) IPM, one (1) general, and two (2) L&R. It will run from 7:30 AM until 1:00 PM and will have the following speakers and topics: ■ “Managing Forages Before, After and After Drought” Dr. Larry Redmon, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension
■ “TDA Laws & Regulations Compliance” Elizabeth Prokop, TDA
■ “Forage Related Pest” Dr. David Kerns, AgriLife Extension
■ “External Parasite Control in Cattle,” Dr. Sonja Swiger, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension
■ “An IPM Approach to Insect Management in Forages,” Dr. David Kerns, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Specialist The second half of the program will offer an additional three (3) general CEU’s and offer the following speakers and topics: ■ “Herbicide Mode of Action,” Dr. Scott Nolte, AgriLife Extension
■ “Herbicide and Pesticide Options for Cotton Production” Dr. Ben McKnight, Texas AgriLife Extension
■ “Sandbur Control” Dr.
Zach Howard, Texas AgriLife Extension This year’s program will be held at the DeLeon City Auditorium, 125 S Texas St, De Leon, TX 76444. The cost of registration is $60.00, which includes lunch. Doors will open at 7AM with the program starting at 7:30AM. Everyone is welcome to stay for just the morning session or for the whole day. 8 CEU’s in one day makes for a very long day so come prepared for a lot of sitting- I recommend bringing a seat cushion. The program will be offered with speakers live via internet, but speakers will not be on the premises. To help us with the meal count we do ask that you RSVP by Monday, December 11th. To RSVP or if you have questions just give us a call at 325356-2539.
