The local Apiary Management group will be holding its first meeting of the new year on Tuesday, January 30th at 6:30 pm at the De Leon City Auditorium. The group is starting the year off with an excellent speaker, Bill Baxter, the Assistant Chief Apiary Inspector with the Texas Apiary Inspection Service. Mr. Baxter will be talking about the inspection process and requirements, varroa mite management, and general apiary management. Mr. Baxter is an incredible resource with many years of beekeeping and apiary management experience. There is no charge for the program, and everyone is invited.

The Comanche County AgriLife Extension office will be holding a peanut meeting for growers on Friday, February 9th at 10 a.m. at the Comanche Community Center. We will be discussing results from a variety of trials and other management factors that may be of importance to producers this coming year. We will have State Peanut Specialist Emi Kimura and the State Peanut Breeder John Cason speaking. We will also have Shelly Nutt, the Executive Director of the Texas Peanut Board, giving an update on board activities. We will be offering 1 IPM CEU for the event. There is no charge and lunch will be provided by our good local sponsors. Please call the office to preregister, if you are interested in either of these programs, 325-3562539.
