Dublin High School is sending four powerlifters to state competition following strong performances at regional competition.

“The kids have worked their tails off to get to this point and we couldn’t be more proud of them,” said DHS head powerlifting coach Wes Benfer.

Following the boys regional competition in Decatur on Friday, seniors Cameron Patton and Elijah Gonzales qualified for the state meet.

Patton placed first in the 132 pound weight class with a total lift of 1,115 pounds (425 in squat, 290 in bench and 400 in dead lift).

Gonzales placed 4th in the 165 with a total lift of 1,325 pounds (535 in squat, 295 in bench and 495 in dead lift).

They will compete in Abilene March 22.

Senior Mariana Ortiz and sophomore Cassidy Adair are competing at the state powerlifting meet in Frisco on Thursday, March 14 after placing first and second in their respective weight classes at the regional meet in Dublin on March 2.

Also placing high at the regional meet but not advancing are: Gonzalo Ortiz, 4th in the 114 with a total of 785 (325 in squat, 160 in bench and 300 in dead lift) Jovani Cervantes, 5th in the 181 with a total of 1,310 (530 in squat, 280 in bench and 500 in dead lift) Dubliners who also qualified for the boys regional meet were: Paul Adams, Marshall Daniel, Alonso Moreno, Yovany Ortiz and Emmanuel Ramirez.
