Daniel J. Gomes, Jr.
Dublin – May 2, 1947- Jan. 31, 2022
Danny was born in Merced, Calif. on the dairy owned by his Portuguese parents, Frank and Deolinda Gomes. He graduated from Merced High School, class of ’66.
He enjoyed riding his Harley and drag-racing his souped up ’55 Chevy while working on various dairies. Danny excelled at many occupations including welding, dairy herdsman, dairy equipment, dairy equipment and chemical sales and nutritional programming for cows.
He was fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.
Danny met his wife, Jeanette, in 1980 and were married in 1982. In 1983, they bought a 100-year-old two-story-house and moved it 45 miles to their farm and restored it. They bought a video store in Merced and advertised it on a 1966 Chevy Nova that Danny built for Jeanette to race on quarter-mile, oval dirt tracks. He raced different cars, sometimes on asphalt for 20 years and was the very best car builder.
Danny and Jeanette sold their farm and relocated to Dublin, Texas on Nov. 2012. They bought some cows for their farm. They attended Double N Cowboy Church in Dublin. Danny loved buying and selling car parts at car shows. He loved going to estate sales, and he really loved fishing at the neighbors’ lake. His big ol’ smile told you when he caught the “big one!”
Danny had a big heart of gold, but it gave out when God called him home.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff and step-daughter, Shelley Garrison.
Danny is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rose Jeanette Gomes; children, Daniel Jr., Nicole, Estacia; step-son,, Don; and stepdaughter, Kim. Danny also had 15 grandchildren and eight grand children.
There will be a memorial service in Merced, Calif. at a later date.
