CCMC digs into new nursing facility

Comanche County Medical Center, staff, supporters and community members joined together at the northeast side of the hospital for groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 24 for the new nursing home.

The nursing home recently met approval for grants following the commitment of $3.5 million in funding from CCMC and the Comanche County Consolidated Hospital District.

CCMC CEO Dr. Larry Troxell led the ceremony, introducing many people who were instrumental in the project coming together.

Nikki Stark, Director of Clinic Operations & Community Outreach Services, said of the planning of the new nursing home and what it offers residents and their families: “We want life to happen in the walls of this facility…. I’m thrilled to be a part of this organization at this time…. It’s going to be a show-stopper.”

CCCHD Board President Joe Locke said the project had been a dream of his for a long time. “I want to say thanks to everybody for coming together and making this happen,” Locke offered. “It’s something we need really bad” Those in attendance were reminded that donations are still appreciated in making the facility achieve its vision with a great opportunity in the upcoming fundraiser. Organizers set a goal of $75,000 this year to benefit the construction. (See related story on Page B6.)

Dr.GuyleDonhamalso stated his appreciation of everyone’s work on behalf of the medical staff.

The 60,000 sq. ft. facility will provide a long-term care option for those requiring a high level of care.

It will be managed by the health system and operated not-forprofi t. Medical and rehabilitation services will be right next door, on the main CCMC medical campus in Comanche.

The hospital reports that the facility will add many new healthcare jobs will add to the local economy.

It will consist of 76 semiprivate and private rooms with well-appointed resident dining and living areas, activity room, theatre, interior courtyard, physical therapy and rehabilitation department, a spa, and much more.

The nursing home will provide the most extensive care a person can receive outside the hospital, custodial, skilled nursing and 24-hour emergency care included. Residents will receive help with bathing, dressing and eating, RNs will provide medical monitoring, treatment and coordination of care with doctors. Physical, occupational, and respiratory therapists will provide specialized services. Also offered will be memory care, family support and social programs.
