DHS is sending Ayush Patel to Regionals following a first place finish at district competition at Brock last week.

He will play in the next round on Monday at Rose Park in Abilene with the tournament starting at 8 a.m.

DHS tennis coach Stephanie Gurule also reported a strong showing from Naomi Dudley, who finished fourth in the district event.

Gurule offered the following notes on this season:

“The Dublin High School Tennis Team had 45 students on its roster, so there is a lot of interest in tennis here! 15 were on Varsity and 30 were on Junior Varsity.

“We had a varied schedule this year, with scrimmages against Hico and Comanche, & Quads with Bangs, Coleman, Brownwood, and Early. Most of our matches were tournaments and we played in places like Glen Rose, Whitney, and Waco.

“Once our team was full strength, we performed well at tournaments. For instance, at our last Varsity tournament in Whitney, we had students who took 1st, 2nd, and 4th places in their categories.

It was a good mix to get our team ready for District matches in Brock on March 30th & 31st.

“We were able to only field four entries at Districts because of calendar conflicts. Our 2 Doubles teams were stopped early, but our 2 Singles moved through the brackets.

“Naomi Dudley was seeded #3 going in, and won her first match against Daniela Meras of Comanche 6-2, 6-0. Next she played the #2 seed, Anna Turner from Peaster and lost 1-6, 1-6. Anna Turner went on to take 1st place in Districts. Naomi's last match was against Sydney Strand from Brock for 3rd place, but unfortunately she lost in a split set 6-4, 6-7, 4-6, so she took 4th place overall.

“Ayush Patel was our Boys Single player, and was seeded #1 going into the tournament. He played Darren Hall from Peaster first, and won 7-6, 6-1. He had to shake some dust off because he had to wait 5 hours for his first match. Next he played in the Semi-finals Hudson Hodges from Brock and won 6-1, 6-2. After a small rain delay in the morning, Ayush played in the Finals against Garrett Gustafson from Brock and won 7-5, 6-4, to take 1st place in District!”
