Following the crowning of Kelsie Domer as the 2024 PRCA Breakaway roping World Champion (see story in Dec. 12 edition), another Dubliner claimed a world title in the arena.

This came as Kassie Mowry finished second in the final round of barrel racing at the 2024 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Teton Ridge in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 13.59 finish was enough to send her to the top of the charts with $457,809 and claim her first WPRA World Championship Barrel Racing World Title.

Mowry and her horse Jarvis placed second or better in eight out of 10 rounds and clocked the fastest time at this year’s NFR with a seventh-round 13.19.

Jarvis also earned accolades as the Nutrena Horse of the Year presented by the American Quarter Horse Association.

Mowry said there were ‘not enough words’ to describe her amazing equine partner.

Mowry also won the Ram Top Gun award, winning more money than any of the other 120 contestants competing and finished with $295,526.

Mowry called the experience “unbelievable and emotional” in an interview with WPRA.

“It was a really tough year for me,” she admitted in the interview. “It was tough to leave my driveway in June. I almost didn’t. It was so hard to get through and so many times I wanted to go home but so many people helped me and supported me through this. It was so worth it. I am so proud, and I know Mike (the late Michael Boone her fiancé) would be so proud.”

The Dublin cowgirl said her goal was simply to do the best she could and showcase Jarvis, who she felt won over everyone and it made her feel good.

“Thisisallsooverwhelming, and I am just beside myself,” Mowry said.
