A poppy day sale was scheduled on May 28 in downtown Dublin. Mrs. Nellie Wilcoxson and Mrs. Dovie Traweek, both were co-chairmen of the sale, described the day’s tradition as “a memorial to the war dead beginning in the years following the First World War, when veterans returning to their homes in this country remembered the wild poppies which lined the battlefields of France and Flanders. Soldiers of all nations came to look upon the poppy as a living symbol of their dead comrades’ sacrifice.”

Seven year old Brittany Moyer was bitten by a copperhead while playing in her yard. The snakebite only kept her down for a few days and she was expected back at school press day, which also happened to be the last day of school. The snake was estimated to be eight inches long.
