The Comanche Chief

Russell Johnson was sworn in as a new Comanche City Council member, filling the seat that was held by Shane Stalnacker. Johnson is a native of Dublin and graduated from DHS in 1986. He obtained his certification as an EMT from Tarleton State University in 1992 and volunteered for Dublin EMS. He and his wife, Melinda, moved to Comanche in 1995, where he served as the County Commissioners’ secretary and assistant Emergency Management Coordinator. Russell helped establish Proctor Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a captain before taking on the role of fire chief. The new Comanche ISD Special Events Center/ Basketball Gym is now officially open and will be the site of the Comanche Holiday Classic after Christmas.

More than 200 people attended the 8th annual Boots and Bling fundraiser at Circle T Arena, raising more than $125,000 for the Friends of Hamilton ISD Education Foundation.

Comanche County Commissioners approved the acceptance of around $62,000 as the result of a settlement between the State of Texas and several pharmaceutical companies had engaged in “fraudulent marketing and/or distribution of opioids.” The settlement stated these activities ae largely to blame for the widespread opioid epidemic in the United States that has resulted in large sale opioid addiction and death by overdose.
