Fires have continued in the area and local fire departments need financial donations to offset fuel and maintenance costs.
The Dublin Volunteer Fire Department and many other agencies spent a large portion of Sunday, June 26 battling a series of grass fires on County Road 242, County Road 376 and County Road 250.
Approximately 60 acres were consumed by the fires and the cause is still under investigation by Erath County Fire Marshal Tommy Shelton, Dublin Police Department and Stephenville Fire Marshall’s Office.
Fire units from Dublin, Lingleville, Erath County, Proctor, Deleon, Harbin, Huckabee, Stephenville as well as equipment from Erath County Pct. 3 Commissioner Joe Brown and Erath County Pct. 2 Commissioner Albert Ray responded to assist.
According to Dublin VFD Fire Chief Paul Warner, local firefighters were on scene until midnight and then at the station until approximately 1 a.m. getting equipment ready to go for the next fire.
“It was very heavy brush,” Warner said.
Fire resources from throughout the state, including those from Erath and surrounding counties, have also been busy battling the Dempsey Fire in Palo Pinto County.
As of June 27, Dempsey
Fire was listed at 38 percent contained and estimated at 11,598 acres.
The fire started on June 23 in private farmland between Palo Pinto Highway and northbound FM Road 4.
It is unclear what started the fire at this time.
Personnel and resources from Texas A&M Forest Service have been aiding with containment lines and aerial attacks with more than 400 firefighters on scene.
Rain and storms have aided the area over the weekend and early into the week, but there is still a high fire danger because of the severity of the drought.
Many surrounding counties have prohibited all forms of fireworks.
Those interested in donating to their local fire departments can simply stop by with funds or a check.
Many fire departments are also seeking easy to eat snacks, water and Gatorade.
