Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

What a terrific response we are getting to the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Festival, Sept. 17-19. Thank you Bradberry’s Best; First National Bank of Dublin, De Leon and Gustine; Things Celtic; Lucky Vines Vineyard and Lucky Distillery; Accelhealth; Dublin EDC; Go Texan (grant); Crazy Heart Productions; and Terri White for your confirmed sponsorships of the event. Thank you also to the

Thank you also to the local folks stepping in to make this event a success. The Dublin Band Boosters and the Sound of Lions Band will be managing the salsamaking competition as a fundraiser.

Local professional Stephanie Bradberry Sojourner, a nurse with Dr. Linda Heflin at Lakeside Physicians in the Stephenville office, will lead the group in this activity. Do you make good salsa? See just how good by putting it up against some others in the community to vie for the People’s Choice Award! It’s free to enter.

Here are a few others who have stepped up recently: Joel Munoz, First National Bank (managing the soccer tournament); Blanca Martineau, Comanche County Medical Center (organizing people demonstrating how to make Mexican food); Coach Michael Ruiz, Dublin ISD art teacher (working with students to develop authentic cultural decorations for event); and Wanice Brown (a newcomer to our community) for stepping up to fill in where we need her.

We cannot pull this event off without all our volunteers. We still need folks to volunteer, so please let me know if you can help.

Ranch Rodeo on Friday Night

Now, don’t get confused, because there are TWO rodeos coming up in mid-September.

The first one is the United Pro Rodeo Association rodeo held on Sept. 11.

Our RANCH Rodeo, sponsored by the Chamber and produced by local folks 4M Ranch & Rodeo, is a part of the Hispanic Heritage Festival and will be held Sept. 17 (Friday night.)

Something New at Frontline Heroes Museum

Check out the travelling exhibits at the Frontline Heroes Museum! While all four of our local Museums have much history to offer (www. dublintxmuseums.org); Eddy Weiss and the folks at Frontline Heroes are upping the bar. Interested in learning how Hispanics impacted various American wars? You will be awe-struck at the contributions about which we never knew.

Local Goes for Gold in Tokyo Paralympics

I cannot close out this week’s column without mentioning the truly amazing community send-off held for Tokyobound Paralympic athlete Michael Godfrey. With little preparation, Dublin pulled out all the stops to make this an event he and his family and coach will never forget.

The videos of the sendoff parade are available online at Facebook, and I urge you to check them out.

They will make you proud of our little town. We definitely support our hometown legends!

Special thanks to Chief Cameron Ray and Officer Nancy Wilson (and others) at the Dublin Police Department; the Dublin Fire Department and EMS; all Dublin ISD teachers, staff and students; DISD leadership Melissa Summers and Terri White; Dublin EDC’s Karen Wright and Rotary; Paul Bradberry, Tony Long and the other folks at Bradberry’s Best; and the hundred-plus Dublin residents who came out to cheer him on his endeavor. Dublin, you make me proud!
