DeLeon Historical Society to host Sip to Preserve History

Body

The DeLeon Historical Society is serving up local flavor and a chance to help a signature landmark during “A Sip to Preserve History” Sept. 7 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at DeLeon City Hall.

The annual wine tasting event aids in the museum’s efforts of restoring the old DeLeon railroad depot which will soon have its roof replaced by local company Lane Ratliff. After the roof is installed, plans can be made to begin the restoration of the interior of the depot.

The society reports the depot is an integral part of the town’s history as the railroad started the community of De Leon by selling plots of land to new settlers to the area.

Those attending the “Sip” can look forward to selections from the following wineries: The Red Caboose (Clifton & Meridian), D’Vine Wine (Granbury), Pemberton Cellars (Granbury), Cockerell Vineyards (Comanche) and Juniper Cove Winery (Whitney). Along with the wine tasting, there will be a large food bar, a silent auction and a live band.

The first 50 people to arrive at the event will receive a commemorative glass.

Tickets are $45 each can be purchased early at the museum Wednesday – Saturday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Lead sponsors for A Sip to Preserve History are First National Bank and Mark Nowlin.
