A free conference is being hosted virtually on Saturday, offering valuable guidance and education on caring for the elderly we care about.

The first Inaugural Eldercare/Caregiver Conference, provided through the Texans Reducing Food Insecurity & Depression (TFID) program, will go live Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Through the Texas Health Resources community impact initiative, Tarleton State University has been awarded the Texans Reducing Food Insecurity & Depression (TFID) grant. TFID intends to address depression and social isolation in the target population, while also addressing access to healthy food.

“We are offering this free to the community conference that helps us to learn more about caring for those who have so wonderfully cared for us through the years,” said Brooke Harris, who helps oversee the grant’s usage in the 76401, 76402 and 76446 ZIP codes.

The Keynote will be delivered by Dr. Julie Merriman PhD, who will provide insight into self-care for caregivers since caring for others can in Harris’ words, “sometimes leave us depleted.”

The conference will also delve into a wide range of topics thanks to six other speakers including Harris, Dr. Melody Loya, Andy Crocker, Dr. Subi Gandhi PhD, David Bearden and Dr. Sushma Sharma PhD.

The event is free to the public but CEU hours are available (for $20 per person) for licensed professional counselors, social work, licensed marriage and family counselors and certified family educators.
