So many eggs ... so little time
It’s pretty simple to fill an Easter Egg.
1. Yougetaplasticegg. (Faberge eggs are much too expensive to throw on the ground.)
2. Select a size appropriate toy or candy. (This can be worked around depending on how tired or frustrated you are.)
3. Closetheeggaround the prize until you hear a snap (or tape it till you make it).
4. Reflectonajobwell done until you realize you’re one of the organizers of the city-wide Easter Egg Hunt and the process has to be repeated 16,000 times.
This realization in step 4 makes all the sponsors of the Easter EGGStravaganza grateful for all the volunteers and donors who help make the event a success. The 4th annual egg hunt, organized by Dublin Dairy Queen, the Dublin Citizen and CWJC/ Transformation Pathway, is set for Saturday, April 19 at the Dublin City Park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is open to all kids up to sixth grade.
This year, it is paired with the Bunny Love Run organized by Transformation Pathway, the event’s nonprofit sponsor who helps with donations to the egg hunt. The 5k and mile fun run start at the park at 8 a.m. by the tennis court and will lead back to the park before the egg hunt proper begins at 9:30 a.m. (Those interested in the race can call 254-4452228 or register online at racedayeventservices.com.)
Families at the egg hunt can also get some free food and photos with the Easter Bunny and there will also be bounce houses set up. There will also be tickets in some eggs that can be redeemed for prize baskets and one ticket for a full year of free of DQ ice cream for one lucky kid.
This editor is particularly grateful for all of the event’s sponsors, donors and egg stuffers.
Saturday, March 22 was our second egg stuffing party at the Station next to Dairy Queen. Across the two mornings, a total of 30 volunteers have gathered to fill thousands of eggs in helping us prepare for the event.
It’s interesting to see the different strategies employed by fillers. Some tables employed the efficiency of Fortune 500 company is separating small prizes by small eggs and large prizes by large eggs with volunteers dedicated to different sizes. (I might have been reprimanded for bringing the wrong size candy to the wrong part of the table.)
Other tables are more like the kids in art class who drew the duck blue because they never saw a blue duck before. In other words, they let their feeling dictate what goes in the egg. (As long as you don’t crush the candy, you can fit a pretty large bag of M&M’s in a pretty small Easter egg.)
I think I might have revealed which camp I’m in… oh well.
Most tables seem to have fun playing with the little wind-up cars.
We have one more egg stuffing party set for The Station on April 5 from 9 a.m.-noon. If you’d like to join in bringing a happy Easter to hundreds of Dublin kids, we invite you to join.
