Dublin graduate Wayne Williamson has lived in Dublin his whole life, and loves the feeling of community in the small town. After a long career of working at 7/11 and Walmart, he’s now enjoying a relaxing retirement.

While at Dublin High School, Williamson was involved in football, basketball and track. He graduated 1963 and went to Tarleton to study physical education. While in college he ran track and lettered in the sport.

When he graduated with his bachelors, Williamson worked at Henderson’s Feed Mill for a while, then took a job at the local (now closed) 7/11 as a cashier.

Williamson enjoyed the social aspects of his job at 7/11. “I liked seeing all the people,” he said.

He spent the next 35 years working at 7/11, at two different locations. Then, around 2005, he took a job at Walmart in Stephenville as a greeter.

In his free time, Williamson volunteered his time helping Dublin coaches with track and field. “They asked me to help out so I went ahead and helped out,” he said.

He retired from Walmart in 2015, and since then he’s been enjoying having more free time. Williamson still enjoys staying involved with sports, attending Dublin football games and continuing to help out with DHS track and field.

Williamson lives in the same house his parents, Vada and Virgil Williamson, raised him in. He has no plans to move away from Dublin. “I like the peace and quiet,” he said.

Throughout his life, Williamson has found inspiration in finding fulfilling ways to fill his time. “[I’m inspired by] just being happy and doing things,” he said.

Williamson’s advice to Dublin graduates is to “Go out and find your career and do your best with your career,” he said. “Enjoy life and find something you enjoy and meet your goals.”
