Notable casts have always been featured of productions by Cecil B. DeMille, but in “Male and Female,” the Paramount screen version of Sir James M. Barrie’s famous play, “ The Admirable Crichton,” the master director has fairly outdone himself. For the important roles in this picture, which will be shown at the Majestic Theatre February 23-36, some of the most prominent players in filmdom have been assembled. Thomas Meighan takes the part of Crichton, the extraordinary English butler who becomes practically a king, Gloria Swanson is Lady Mary, the lord’s daughter who falls in love with Crichton, Lila Lee is her servant-maid rival. Theodore Roberts has a characteristic role. Others in the cast are Raymond Hatton, Bebe Daniels, Mildred Reardon, Robert Cain, Edna Mae Cooper, Guy Gilver and Wesley Barry.

The Area Agricultural teachers’ and FFA boys’ meeting was held last week in Stephenville. All the ag teachers of the area were present except Ralph Moser and Morris Dean. Mr. Moser could not attend due to illness. A new teacher, Preston D. Kiel of Perrin, was present at the meeting. A discussion of the new textbooks, which were recently adopted, was held by the group. It was learned at the meeting that two schools had not received the Sears Roebuck Award which is given each year to each school. The remaining $199 of the awards will be divided between the two, Glen Rose and Sidney FFA Chapters. It will probably be used for the purchase of Jersey heifers.

A very interesting discussion of the meat and milk judging contest was held. These contests will be held in Fort Worth on April 2. The meat judging contest will be held at Armour’s & Co. in Fort Worth. The annual Tarleton FFA judging contest will be held Saturday, April 9.

The official monthly report and the discussion of the state conference was held by those present. V.A. Underwood, local VA teacher, states that he received an invitation this week from J.F. Payne Supervisor of Area IV, to participate in a celebration of National FFA week on Saturday, Feb. 26. It will be held at the Fair Park auditorium in Dallas at 7 a.m. The Early Birds will broadcast at 7:15 a.m. after which the WFAA cast will put on additional hour-tohour and half program. Mr. Payne states that the boys will be admitted on their membership cards. A large crowd is expected to be present to help celebrate National FFA Week which began Feb. 20 and continues through Feb. 26.

Three new governmentowned Jeep ¼ ton right hand drive postal vehicles arrived on the three city delivery routes. When the new ser-vice is implemented, Postmaster Bill Cowan said that each city carrier will use a park and loop system to deliver letter mail and par-cels on his route on the same trip. Mechanization of city routes is a high priority of the Postal Service and is being accomplished as rapidly as possible.

Three local residences have been approved by the Christmas in April board of directors for renovation on April 17 – a day when local volunteers help the elderly or disabled make their homes safer or more livable. Application deadline was Feb. 12.

This year, the home repairs will be coordinated by local churches.

First Baptist Church will renovate a house on South Camden; Patrick Street Church of Christ will work on a home on Eagle St., and Highland Baptist Church and First United Methodist will work together on a house on North Grafton.

David Roberts, CIA board president, said volunteers do not have to be affiliated with a church to participate. Volunteers may contact the church they prefer to work with or just show up at the high school cafeteria at 8 a.m. April 17 to be assigned to a site.

Because of the extensive electrical and plumbing requirements of one site, skilled labor, as well as unskilled, will be needed.
