Trucks arrived in Dublin with the 1940 harvest of peanuts. They later went to the Dublin warehouse where the peanuts were sold. More than 3000 tons had been delivered according to Hogan Scott, in charge of buying at the warehouse. In 1940 the average price being paid at the Peanut Growers Co-operative was 3 cents a pound. The total paid out to farmers was $180,000. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram) By 1942 the U.S. Government implemented price support programs for peanuts as part of the war effort to encourage farmers to plant more acreage. It set the minimum prices from 3.5 to 4.1 cents per pound. (Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta) This photograph was taken at the corner of East Live Oak and Patrick Street.
