Thanksgiving 2020 is upon us.

The Dublin Public Library will be closed November 25-30 for the holiday. The library is open Tuesday-Friday 12 p.m.-5 p.m.

Be sure to visit before that closure and stock up on free material.

Can’t get to the library during regular hours? There is curbside service through the locker on the front porch. Call the library at 254-445-4141 for any questions.

Traveling? Pick up a couple of audio books and listen on the road. Audios are also great for people who have a commute.

Not traveling or gathering and need to stay busy? Take advantage of the free books and movies to fill a long holiday and weekend.

Company coming? Need entertainment for kids or adults?? There are books and movies to help keep the visitors engaged.

We are doing many things differently this year. Have a movie night or a read aloud night. Perhaps for people who are apart but long to be connected to grands or anyone, get on Zoom and do a read along together.

Some books that would be perfect for sharing in whatever medium may fit are a series by James Rice. His whole body of work has been nationally recognized as classic. Not only entertaining Rice’s books are fact filled for Texans especially.

Rice was born in Coleman County, Texas in 1934. A graduate of UT, he also held master’s degrees from Stephen F. Austin University and Howard Payne University.

After teaching at the high school and college levels he made his home in Hico until his sudden passing in 2004.

Most of his volumes are set in Texas and all are beautifully illustrated.

Large enough in size to be shared in a group or online, they are ideal for the holidays. There are plenty of these available for a marathon or to spread out over several gatherings.

■ “Cajun Night Before Christmas”

■ “Cowboy Alphabet

■ “Cowboy Rodeo”

■ “Gaston Goes to Texas”

■ “La Nochebuena South of the Border”

■ “Texas Jack at the Alamo”

■ Texas Night Before Christmas”

■ If a movie marathon is a better choice try some of these DVDs:

■ “A Christmas Carol”

■ “The Christmas Shoes”

■ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”

■ “White Christmas”

■ “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol”

■ “Love’s Christmas Journey”

These are just a few of the hundreds of DVDs available at the library. A list is easily accessed through the online catalogue at www. dublinlibrary.org or give the library a call to see if they have some favorites.

Remember that there is Wi-Fi available surrounding the library with the picnic tables socially distanced.

Also, it can make both black/white and color copies, print documents, fax, provide interlibrary loan, and has several office supply items like manila envelopes and card stock if just a few pieces are needed.

The Dublin Public Library has much to offer as this season begins.
