Have any of our sci-fi fans read “The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress” by Robert A Heinlein?

His 1966 novel seems to have been the birthplace of the “new normal” phrase that may explain many of 2020’s new behaviors and new habits.

The Dublin Public Library perseveres in this “new normal” as the COVID-19 pandemic persists. The library is open Tuesday-Friday 12-5, curb service is available through the locker on the front porch 24/7, and Wi-Fi can be accessed anywhere surrounding the building 24/7.

The Erath County Genealogy Society had a successful meeting via Zoom last week. The book club continues to thrive in this medium and the library has offered two interactive conferences through Zoom with one offering continuing education credit.

“Necessity is the Mother of invention,” an English proverb whose author is apparently unknown—Dublin is so fortunate to have a librarian and staff that continue to follow this adage in creating new ways to serve our community.

Keep an eye on the Dublin Public Library’s Facebook page for Zoom opportunities, new books and materials, services and frequently they post carts of FREE BOOKS sitting outside the building. Come and get ‘em.

While spending more and more time at home, it seems we end up in the kitchen quite often. People who have never cooked for pleasure are finding a new outlet.

More than one new business has been created in the kitchen through making desserts, cooking and delivering meals, and catering services.

One baking service was birthed out of the need to bring in income for child support after regular job hours were cut—that “Mother of invention” thing again.

Let the library help with its wide selection of cookbooks. Holidays are likely to be a little different this year; try some of these great offerings from the stacks.

Many of these lovely volumes are a feast for the eyes with amazing photography even if the food is not prepared. Again, holidays are approaching, and some new ideas may be welcome on presentation of a meal as well as the dishes to be prepared.

Often considered the gold standard for holiday fare, this new edition offers health-conscious, convenient recipes as well as kitchen basics. The photos and table arrangement ideas are outstanding.
