This Saturday, at 11 a.m. come visit with Annie’s Therapeutic Companions and meet Annie.
Kids are invited to practice their reading skills in a non-judgmental environment as they read to a beautiful Australian Shepherd who is registered as a “complex” Pet Partners therapy dog.
A few fun facts about Annie include that she was named after best American sharpshooter and exhibition shooter legend Annie Oakley. She was born in 1860 and one of her nicknames was “Little Sure Shot”.
A favorite treat of Annie’s is whipped cream. She loves stuffed toys and her birthday is April 25, 2013. She absolutely loves people of all ages and has yet to meet someone she didn’t love!
By bringing in a therapy companion animal like Annie, children are encouraged to practice their reading skills without being embarrassed about stumbling or mispronouncing words. Annie (nor her handler) judge others and simply encourage everyone to love reading!
As the calendar heads towards March, book clubs are starting to read new selections including: The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin.
‘A. J. Fikry’s life is not at all what he expected it to be. He lives alone, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. But when a mysterious package appears at the bookstore, its unexpected arrival gives Fikry the chance to make his life over-and see everything anew.’
The book club will meet March 25 at 1 p.m. to discuss the novel. Book club for 2023 is a hybrid of Zoom and in-person meetings to discuss the books.
(Those who would like to attend the virtual book club can call 254-445-4141 and register for the email alerts.)
