Next week the Dublin Public Library will only be open on Tuesday, Dec. 22. Be sure to stop by from noon to 5 p.m. and pick-up books and movies for the long holiday weekend.

For folks who have no special plans, let the library provide some company.

There are well over 1500 DVDs to choose from including classics, animated, old favorites, and new movies. Go to www. dublinlibrary.org or drop by and browse the racks.

Maybe a good book is the answer for some extra down time. Many best-selling authors have multiple offerings waiting to be checked out for free.

IN THE STACKS

Mary Higgins Clark died in January at the age of 92. For almost five decades her books have been best sellers. The last five were co-authored with her daughter.

Known as “The Queen of Suspense,” Clark was 43 when her books took off in sales. Several of her novels are ready to be enjoyed in both hardback and audio.

■ “Every Breath You Take”

■ “I’ll Never Walk Along”

■ “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”

■ “The Lost Years”

■ “Loves Music, Loves to Dance”

■ “The Melody Linger On”

■ “Silent Night”

■ “You Don’t Own Me”

“The Shadow of Your Smile” is the latest addition to the library’s collection.

True to the Clark formula of mystery, a family secret marries medical science with religious faith while searching for the heir of child born in secret.

With the remains of a family fortune at stake as well as exposing the present poor management, a dying sister wrestles with identifying an unknown heir.

However, those in control of this foundation will stop at nothing to keep their own lifestyles afloat.

The reputations of a revered nun, a worldfamous doctor, a prominent financier, and Broadway producer hang in the balance. Is murder the price of an unnamed heir?

Lynn Austin never dreamed of becoming a writer but 23 books later she is famous for her historical fiction. Never a reader growing up, she began reading in earnest and thinking about writing while living in Colombia with no TV.

Moving with her musician husband to Ontario and later Winnipeg, writing became her constant friend. Austin’s work focuses on the bonds of women and several of her books are set in WWII and women’s contributions on the home front.

■ “All Things New” .

“Candle in the Darkness”

■ “Eve’s Daughters” “Fire by Night”

■ “Hidden Places”

■ · “Legacy of Mercy”

■ “A Light to My Path”

■ “A Proper Pursuit” “Return to Me”

■ “Though Waters Roar”

■ • “Waves of Mercy”

■ “While We’re Apart” . “Wonderland Creek”

The newest in the library is “A Woman’s Place.” Weaving the lives of four women from completely different backgrounds together, this novel shows just how valuable women’s efforts were to WWII.

Austin’s historical facts are spot on. Though these are fictional characters, the situations and contributions are very real.
