Letter to the Editor
Amy or the Ghost Amy Taylor is a Denton ISD middle school teacher running for State Board of Education District 14 against Mindy Bumgarner, in the November Election. Early voting starts Oct 19, next Monday.
Amy stands for rigorous, accurate curriculum that is religion-neutral, for social studies. She believes in educational standards made for how students learn. Amy is for local parental control, not state control, of book selections. Though not under the State Board of Education, Amy is against vouchers and for full funding of public schools and their programs, like special ed and school safety.
We don’t know much about her opponent, however. Her list of endorsements shows that she goes along with the current administration, which has given us vouchers, Muslim vilification, and school takeovers.
And Mindy is a ghost in communication with the public: She has: 1. not answered written biographical questions or attended the Denton ISD PTA forum 2. not answered written questions from the Dallas Morning News or interviewed with them 3. not attended the League of Women Voters Forum in Ellis County 4. not answered questions for the state League of Women Voters newspaper on those running for state offices.
Amy has participated in all of the above. She is ready and able to share her faith, hope, and love for our Texas public schools, and their students, families, and communities.
It’s getting close to Halloween; should you vote for Amy or for the ghost?
