Dear Editor:
Brown paper and corrugated cardboard are relatively easy to recycle and remanufacture. This is done at operations scattered across the country. And we are seeing more of our goods come in boxes to our houses. I like to do my part to recycle our boxes. But having to travel to Stephenville and then across Stephenville to a recycling location causes me to pause. I’m sure other Dubliners who want to do good have the same problem. The lack of a local place to recycle probably also keeps many Dubliners—and others in the area—from doing the recycling they would want to do.
So, this is an open letter to the city, asking that it secure a place within Dublin where those who shop Dublin can also recycle.
The company which collects our garbage also runs a recycling location in Stephenville. In the next contract with this company, the city could include that they collect recycled items from a location here. Of course, Dublin needs to set aside a small area where we can leave recycle-ables. It is certainly a benefit to us that the city has regular times where bulky trash can be placed in bins at the city yard. The city could locate recycling bins at the city yard or maybe at the watertower. The bins could be accessible on a schedule. It would be appreciated more by citizens if the place to leave recyclables were open often.
