Dear Editor:
When we turn on the light switch, we expect it to work; and if we must decide between eating and heating, then we have a problem with our power; it must be affordable, and to be affordable it must be reliable. Electricity is not a sexy subject, most people don’t want to think about, let alone talk about, after all what is there to talk about really. It just must be there when you want it. Telephones use to be that way, not as much anymore, but the portability out ways the drawbacks of “can you hear me now”.
We want people to start thinking about their electricity now it is taking over our back yards and marching through acres of land around us. The destruction of our land, in my opinion, does not compare or help to meet the requirements of reliability, affordability and efficiency for our electric system.
A vast amount of our tax dollars pays for this unreliable source of solar and wind electricity generation and is the reason it is proliferating across the country, not just our county. Over used taxing dollars and overpriced power is coming to your neighborhood and energy companies are getting rich on both, while Americans are dying in the cold. This is not a third world country, but if this continues, we may soon become one.
It is time for people to start paying attention to how they want to spend their tax money at their local government levels, state levels and even federal levels. It’s time to start speaking up before we are all left in the dark.
For anyone wanting to find out more about the solar plants and their impact on the county, please come to our Town Hall Meeting at 6:00 pm.on Thursday, December 9 at City Limits, Stephenville. It’s open to everyone wishing to join us and learn more. We have an impressive panel of speakers set up who will give their perspective and answer your questions. https://www.facebook.com/groups/erathcountystopsolarfarmshere
