Gray skies and blue
“I’m having trouble with motivation today.”
Cierra, our resident ad builder/anything she can do to help, said these words last week and got a laugh from me as she had drafted a calendar for 2020 including all holidays and notable dates, because she had started working on next year’s filing system.
In the midst of that, she also found an “Old Irish Blessing” that she had saved when she got hired and printed a copy for every one in the office.
The blessing started simple enough wishing “enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear.”
The wishes turned seemingly darker as it went on but I ended up really appreciating the sentiment.
“I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life appear bigger....
“I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye.”
2019 has been a year packed with hellos and good-byes for me. As I reflect on it all, I’m grateful that it has all led me here and appreciate all the good times on the way.
Like anyone, I’ve had loss in my life, but the loss is only hard because of the good times that came before it and although the loss can hurt for a while, the good memories outlast the pain.
Looking into the coming year, I expect I’ll have some bad times but I’m looking forward to the good that will seem that much sweeter.
